6 Degrees of Human Rights - Discussion
What really separates us from other people?  How are our goals in life so different than that of other individuals on this planet?  Really, we all want the same things; we want our families to be healthy and happy, we want to have enough to eat, and a roof over our head.  However, how some people define getting to this place is vastly different

Tuesday, Jan. 27

6pm
Zath's Album Cafe - Spider" John Koerner and Willie Murphy--Running, Jumping, Standing Still
"Do you feel like an outcast?  Like somehow your life has been miscast?"
In 1967, Minnesota blues legends Koerner and Murphy collabarated to create a joyously unique, psychedelically-tinged folk-blues masterpiece, Running, Jumping, Standing Still.  Rescued from obscurity by a remastered 1994 anniversary edition with a bonus track, this classic still holds up 41 years after its initial release.  Come to the Cafe Wellstone to dance to this album plus DJ Zathras' usual eclectic mix.

6pm
Deconstructing Conformation Bias - Discussion
How can we be critical when looking into horizon of a new era? Regardless of hope, we must continue to stay critical of those in power.  A new administration does not mean we can just sit back and not be active in our future.

7 pm

5 pm
Laughing Liberally: Live at Commonwealth!
Streamed in from New York City. All are welcome. If you do not live in a LL city, this is especially the place for you. Come and help make this a regular event.

6 pm
Zath's Album Cafe - Queen, A Night at the Opera
At turns bombastic and delicate, loud and lyrical, Queen's 1975 hard rock masterpiece, A Night at the Opera, was at the time the most expensive album ever produced--the poster child for 1970s rock excess.  But if you join DJ Zathras and the gang at the Books for Soldiers Social Club for this classic album, you just might end up agreeing that it's also one of rock's all-time best.  More tunes and dancing follow the album.

Tonight's Album Cafe and Party will be held at Books for Soldiers Social Club, a meeting place for deployed soldiers to meet up with friends and family that are still back home.  BFS is the Second Life presence of the RL non-profit organization Books for Soldiers, which collects and sends books to deployed military personnel.  More information about how you can help is at http://booksforsoldiers.com

6:00 pm
Social Justice Discussion- God and War…
Notice how I did not say God of War.  We always talk about whether or not God backs war, and if he does is he on a particular side?  Ironically, when we look throughout history we can see two certainties.  The first is that hate destroys and takes.  The second is that love creates and is quite productive.  When we see this contrast, for those who believe in God, wouldn't it be assumed that since God is the creator God is then love.   Would love back a war?

7 pm
Zombies at the Yak
If DJ Rocky had his way, every night would be zombie night, which wouldn't be a bad thing because there's no Muskrat Love, no how, in zombie-land.  On the other hand, how many brains can a guy eat before Jane puts down her foot and says, you're on a diet, mister!   So dress as your favourite ghoulie and head on over for the all-request undeadtacular zombie night!  Prizes.

7 pm
Dancing at the Booby
DJ PB spins the tunes at Leandrah's place.

11 pm
Album Cafe - "O Brother Where Art Thou" Soundtrack
Every Thursday a Wellstoner shares one of her or his favorite albums. This week I spin the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack.

The Rev, follows it up with a showing of the movie on Sunday.

If you'd like to host one of these for your favorite album (at the Cafe), let me know.

9am
Breakfast at the Moose Jaw
Join Shini at the Moose Jaw for some morning toe tapping music to start off your weekend.
Cajun is on tap and Moma never turned away an empty stomach craving her Gumbo.

7:00 pm
Dancing Liberally - He's Almost Gone!

By this time next week, Chimpy and the Looters will pack up their instuments and trade the corridors of power for the least discering county fairs, hog calling contests, and Lincoln Day Dinners the nation has to offer. Let's celebrate it with a little dancing and discussion at the Cafe Wellstone. DJ's Mystery Person and  Rocky will be spinning the groove. Lindens given to those wearing the best "goodbye Bush" outfits (I imagine seeing a sea of orange jumpsuits). But as always, dressing up is not required.

Know a musician? Help NN-SL

NN-SL officially seeking donations of MP3 recordings of original songs from any and all musicians for use as part of a collection to be sold on Second Life and possibly itunes as a fundraiser for Netroots Nation in Second Life. Email submissions to rev.paperboy@gmail.com. We need an MP3 and a brief amount of artist info - a couple of sentences is enough- and we need it ASAP in order to get things put together in time for the inauguration. Not all submissions will necessarily end up in the collection, but the Rev will listen to everything sent in and try to whittle it down to a manageable dozen or so tunes.

Forty years ago today, Surveyor 7, the last of America's unmanned lunar probes, landed on the Moon. Today, NASA is led by an Bush apparatchik who seems more concerned with handing out cash to contractors and reviewing presentations by  agency scientists for theological and ideological purity.
Let's celebrate the hope we have for a new NASA under Obama with a little discussion and dancing to the digital stylings of DeeJays Jane and Rocky. Dress up in something space themed if you want to win lindens, or just come as you are and hope no one compliments you on your alien outfit.
